SLAF SEVA VANITHA UNIT AND SLCOMM CONDUCTS MEDICAL OUTREACH PROGRAM IN KANUGAHAWEWA VILLAGE OF KEBITHIGOLLEWA, ANURADHAPURA

A Medical Outreach Program was conducted by the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit on the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, together with the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine on 20 February 2021 at the Kanugahawewa Village of Kebithigollewa, Anuradhapura. In addition to SLAF Medical Personnel the event saw participation of a large contingent from the SL Army and Navy medical professionals.
The Medical Outreach Program consisted of an Eye Clinic where 500 spectacles were given free of charge to deserving patients. Suitable patients were identified during the Eye Clinic who will undergo Cataract Surgery in the near future also free of charge. The program also had a ‘Suwa Nari’ well woman clinic where pap smear samples were collected to be tested for identification of cervical cancer patients. An Army mobile X-Ray Unit and a Navy Mobile Dental Unit also participated for the program with their expert services. Three (3) mobile dental chairs were also deployed by the SLAF. The Regional Director Health Services of Anuradhapura also provided a mobile pharmacy which provided required medical supplies free of charge.
The program also consisted of a Surgery Clinic, VP Clinic, Pediatric Clinic, Radiological Clinic which included ultra sound scanning, Dermatology Clinic, Laboratory Testing and Chronic Kidney Screening. The program which saw the participation of over 900 civilians also included educational sessions as well.
The event was attended by the Director Health Services of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal (Dr) LR Jayaweera, Director General Health Services and the President of the SLCOMM, Brigadier (Dr) PAC Fernando, Acting Director General Health Services of the SL Navy, Commodore (Dr) PJB Marambe, Base Commander of SLAF Base Vavuniya, Air Commodore SDGM Silva and his lady, Mrs. Nirmala Perera the President of the SVU at Vavuniya and Air Commodore (Dr) NDB Abeysekera.
The overall event was coordinated by Group Captain (Dr) PAV Padmaperuma, the Commanding Officer of the SLAF Hospital in Colombo. Wing Commander SC Rajakaruna officiated as the Event Manager.
