SLAF U - 25 Champs in Rupavahini Volleyball Championship 2010

Sri Lanka Air Force Under 25 Men’s teams defeated Navy 3 sets to 1 emerging champions in the Rupavahini Trophy All Island Volley Ball Tournament finals on 17 October 2010 at National Youth Services Council Courts, Maharagama.

Top 80 teams from all parts of the island took part in the tournament which saw the teams from SLAF, Army, Navy and National Youth Services being selected for a league to choose teams for finals.

Distinguished guests present at the vent included Minister of Youth Affairs Dallas Alahapperuma, Deputy Minister and the Chairman National volleyball federation, Dilan Perera and the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral TSG Samarasinghe.

The SLAF journey in the tournament was remarkable with easy wins in the first and second rounds and subsequently qualifying for the finals from the league round as the only unbeaten team.

The stellar performance displayed on the courts by the SLAF players ensured them the following awards:

Best Player        -    LAC Nilanka Jayakody (Rs. 100,000 cash award)        
Best Attacker    -    AC Nirmal Chathuranga
Best Blocker      -    LAC MMM Rifky
Best Receiver    -    LAC Nuwan Fernando
