26th Formation Day Celebrated at SLAF Unit Koggala

An eventful day of community service and recreation marked the celebration of the 26th anniversary of Sri Lanka Air Force Unit Koggala on 19 October 2010.

A parade held at the camp premises kicked off the anniversary celebrations last Tuesday under the inspection of Commanding Officer SLAF Unit Koggala, Wing Commander Channa Dissanayake. This was followed by a spirited cricket match which saw all members of the Unit participate in true camaraderie. The day’s events concluded with an all rank’s lunch.

In addition, the Unit personnel at Koggala were engaged in several renovation and reconstruction projects to streamline infrastructure facilities in the premises. These included the main entrance gate, Airmen transit rooms, Warrant Officers’ and Sergeant’s Mess and the Unit Head Quarters.

The line up of events held in lieu of the occasion in fact began one day prior to the anniversary on 18 October with a Shramadana campaign conducted at the Meepe Amathayana School.

The school which provides education for underprivileged children was facing severe hardships as it lacked proper educational infrastructure. Stepping up to the task, SLAF Unit in Koggala took the initiative to develop this school, channeling nearly Rs. 2 million under the sponsorship of TESCO Sri Lanka Company Limited.
