01st Formation Day Celebrated at SLAF Museum Rathmalana

An eventful day of community service marked the celebration of the 01st anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum Ratmalana today (05 November 2010).
The Museum which was originally set up as the Aicraft Preservation & Storage Unit (AP&SU) in 1993 has been restructured as the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum. It is the only museum dedicated to aviation and the history of Sri Lanka Air Force in the Island.The modernization of the Air Force museum was a brainchild of Chief of Defence Staff & Commander Of the Air Force ,Air Chief Marshal WDMRJ Goonetileke. New Exhibits and facilities have been added to the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum.
The Formation Day commemoration celebrations began with a parade held at the Base premises today under the inspection of the Commanding Officer SLAF Museum ,Wing Commander Malinda Perera.Incidently he is the first Commanding Officer of the Air Force Museum.
Coinciding with the Formation day celebrations A lunch was organised at the museum for the inmates of the Gangodawila Girls home. The girls were joined by the museum personnel of the Air Force for lunch. Prior to lunch they were given a tour of the museum much to their overwhelming delight. There is no doubt the children will take with them cherished memories of today.
