The change of command of the Research and Development Wing at SLAF Katunayake took place on 15 August 2021 where the traditional Handing Over/ Taking Over Parade was conducted at the Wing Premises. The Outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain AKKR Abeysinghe BSc (Def Stu), psc handed over command to Group Captain MPPC Perera MSc (Mgt).

Group Captain MPPC Perera previously held the appointment of Base Quality Assurance Officer at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Ratmalana and Chief Engineer of 4th Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan before being appointed to command the Research and Development Wing at Katunayake. Group Captain Abeysinghe has taken up the appointment at Air Force Headquarters as the Staff Officer (Technical) to the Commander of the Air Force.
