Fire School & Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS) at SLAF Base Katunayake celebrated its' 5th anniversary yesterday (27 August 2021). The FS & FTMS is the prime training institution of the SLAF which conducts fire fighter training courses for Officers, Officer Cadets and Other Ranks. As of now, this school possesses fully fledged classroom facilities and mock training areas to facilitate different spectrums of training. In addition, the Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron undertakes all major repairs of fire tenders and fire pumps in the SLAF. Moreover, the Repair and Development Section fulfills the repair and refilling work of First Aid Fire Appliances (FAFAs), repair and maintenance work of firefighting equipment and the installation work of fire detection and fire protection systems in SLAF and outside organizations.   

The event was marked by donating 3 locally made electrical steam machines to the SLAF Hospital at Katunayake for the use of COVID-19 patients through the voluntary contribution of the staff. These steam machines will be placed at the SLAF Hospital at Katunayake and other treatment centers at Goluwapokuna. Only cross section of officers and airmen took part for the event due to the present pandemic situation.

The event was organized by service personnel of FS&FTMS under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander MADAP Perera. The event was also attended by the Southern Air Commander of the SLAF and Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal R A U P Rajapaksa.
