SLAF CONDUCTS AIRCRAFT CRASH EMERGENCY RESPONSE DRILL AT WELLAWATTA

A mandatory requirement existed to conduct an Aircraft Crash Emergency Response Drill in order to check and increase the preparedness and efficiency of elements involving in such incidents. Therefore, on the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudharshana Pathirana an exercise was conducted by SLAF Station Colombo yesterday (21 October 2021) at the Frazer Grounds in Wellawatta.
The exercise was conducted together with the Fire Sections, Disaster Assistance and Response Teams, Regimental Special Force Teams, Medical and Provost Elements of SLAF Station Colombo.
A simulation of a MI-17 Helicopter boarded with sixteen passengers including 04 VIPs, having had to execute a crashed landing to Fazer Ground in Wellawatta was carried out. The exercise was executed and successfully concluded under the overall supervision of the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo, Air Vice Marshal MDJ Wasage.
