The SLAF emerged triumphant at the 50th National Judo Championship, emerging champions in the women’s category and runners up in men’s, held on 12,-14th November, 2010, at the Sri Lanka Judo Association Stadium in Colombo.

Chief Guest at the event was Japanese Ambassador Mr. Kumio Thkahashe.

Twenty judo societies from around the Island took part in the competition which saw 200 male and 100 female Judokas pitted against one another. While the men’s events in the tournament included 11 individual events, one in the team category and one open event. Meanwhile the women’s events saw 08 in the individual category and 01 each in the team and open categories being worked off.

In the men’s events, the airmen was placed first in the weight categories of 73 Kg, and 90 Kg as well as the team and open events. The airwomen too excelled, clinching first place in the categories of 44 Kg, 48 Kg and 57 Kg. They too won their team event.

The victorious SLAF Judo teams were captained by LAC Perera MAJ while the dedicated training for the sportsmen and women was ensured thanks to the team’s coach Mr. Amal Rathnayake.
