THE PINNACLE OF NEWLY CONSTRUCTED PAGODA AT KANUGAHAWEWA ABHINAWARAMAYA OPENED AMIDST AUSPICIOUS RITUALS

The Kebithigollewa, Kanugahawewa Model Village Development Project which was vested in the public by the President, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a result of the “Gama Samaga Pilisandara” program which was undertaken by the SLAF under the direction of Commander of Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana in line with the 70th anniversary of the SLAF. The mega development project is currently nearing completion of all its phases successfully.

As part of this project, the SLAF constructed a Pagoda at the Abinawaramaya Temple which was a shortfall for many years to the villagers. The Abinawaramaya Temple is the only Buddhist Religious Center in the Village where 314 Buddhist families and approximately 942 Buddhists are residing. The construction of the Pagoda was entirely funded and laboured by the SLAF. Generally, the Pinnacle opening is the final ritual of a newly constructed pagoda which is open for the religious activities to devotees thereafter. Further, the villagers were given opportunity to witness the occasion whilst adhering to the government health protocols declared.

The Pinnacle opening took place at auspicious time today (05 November 2021). The rituals were conducted under the guidance of Maha Sanga and with the precedence of the Acting Director Civil Engendering, Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe. The Base Commander of SLAF Base Vavuniya, Group Captain Amal Perera and Officers from the Base attended the event. Moreover, the SLAF traditional Hewisi Team contributed in conducting the ‘Shabdha Pooja’ during the ritual.

The Abinawarama Temple has benefitted from pervious phases of the development project and the SLAF has concluded the construction of a new Bell Tower and renovation of the “Bodhi Prakaraya”, Sangawasa Building, Wash Room Complex and Daham Pasal Building. Further, SLAF intends to vest in the public the newly constructed Kanugahawewa Seva Piyasa, Halmillawetiya Seva Piyasa, Office of the Halmillawetiya Medical Officer of Health and the Volleyball Arena on 09 November 2021.

This entire development project was handled by the Directorate of Civil Engineering. Based on the location of the Kanuhagawewa Village, SLAF Base Vavuniya is entrusted with coordinating
all matters related to this worthy cause. SLAF Base at Vavuniya under the leadership of the Base Commander coordinated matters of the development project, Public Vesting Ceremonies and will continue to do so for all events which will fall in the days to come.
