COMPLETED PHASES OF THE KANUGAHAWEWA MODEL VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT VESTED IN THE PUBLIC

The Kebithigollewa, Kanugahawewa Model Village Development Project which was vested by in the public by the President, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a result of the “Gama Samaga Pilisandara” program conducted at Kebithigollewa was undertaken by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the direction of Commander of Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana in line with the 70th anniversary of the SLAF. The development Project has reached to its final stages successfully.

In line with this project the SLAF constructed the ‘Sewa Piyasa’ building, MOH Office building, a Volleyball Court and a bus halt at Halmillawatiya and the ‘Seva piyasa’ building at Kanugahawwa. In addition, the SLAF commenced construction of a ‘Dana Salawa’ and renovation work of the ‘Kalagam Vehera’ Temple at Halmillawatiya. All these projects were entirely funded by Urban Development Authority and laboured by the SLAF.

As per the location of Kanugahawewa and Halmillawetiya villages, the people needed to travel more than 10 kilometres to fulfil general administrative requirements from the Divisional Secretariat, Kabithigollawa amidst the dearth of public transportation. However, the newly constructed ‘Sewa Piyasa’ building will provide the administrative services required by villagers. The ‘Swewa Piyasa’ buildings comprise of the Grama Niladhari Office, Sub Post Office, the Economic Development Officer’s Office, Samurdhi Development Officer’s Office and a Fresh Milk Collection Centre.

The Handing Over/ Taking Over ceremony of all constructions funded by UDA was held yesterday (09 November 2021) with the participation of the Acting Base Commander of SLAF Base Vavuniya, Group Captain Malitha Kumarage and Mr. HW Somarathne, the Director North Central Province of the UDA. A few Officers from SLAF Base Vavuniya and few UDA officers were present for the event.

SLAF was able to complete above mentioned all constructions within a period of four months by the Directorate of Civil Engineering which is under the leadership of the Acting Director Civil Engineering, Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe. Based on the location of the Kanuhagawewa Village, SLAF Base Vavuniya is entrusted with coordinating all matters related to this worthy cause. The SLAF Base Vavuniya under the leadership of the Base Commander, Group Captain Amal Perera has coordinated all matters of the development project.
