JUNGLE AND WATER SURVIVAL TRAINING FOR AIR CREW MEMBERS CONCLUDES AT AMPARA

The No.02 Jungle and Water Survival Training course for Aircrew members was held at the Regimental Training Centre of SLAF Station Ampara. This training programme has been designed to give first-hand experience for aircrew members to face any eventualities during an aircraft crash incident. Seven (07) Officers and 10 Others Rankers including an Officer from Pakistan Air Force participated for this 11 day training programme which includes swimming, water crossing, map reading, survival in the jungle, mountain climbing, first aid, night march and crew rescue. The training programme conducted by a group of veteran aircrew members was led by the Commanding Officer of the No 01 Flying Training Wing, Wing Commander KHDP Kasagala who was assisted by aircrew members and Regiment Special Forces troops.

Initial training was conducted at SLAF Station Ampara and the practical sessions were conducted in dense jungle areas such as Namaloya, Himadurawa and Lathugala. This entire training programme was conducted as a secure bio-bubble with strict adherence to the health guidelines and instructions prevailing at present.

The Closing Address and the Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held at the end of the training programme and the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Ampara, Air Commodore GGWTK Gunawardana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Commanding Officer of the No 01 Flying Training Wing, Wing Commander KHDP Kasagala also participated for the ceremony.
