NO 09 ATTACK HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 26TH ANNIVERSARY

The No 09 Attack Helicopter Squadron celebrated its 26th Anniversary yesterday (24 November 2021) at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda. The Squadron was established on the 24th of November 1995 and it has been in the forefront of all offensive operations carried out by the Armed Forces, starting from “Operation Riviresa” till the end of the three decades of humanitarian operations in the country in 2009.
The anniversary day program commenced with the traditional Working Parade reviewed by the Acting Commanding Officer, Wing Commander DI Wijethilake followed by a tree planting event at the Squadron premises. Further, as customary, a floral tribute was done in commemoration of fallen war heroes at the Mi-24 Monument of the squadron with the participation of the Base Commander, Group Captain KAPS Kuruwita and all Commanding Officers, Other Officers of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda. Subsequently a cricket tournament was held with the participation of all members of the squadron.

In addition, the squadron had organized Community Service Projects to mark the anniversary by donating ration items to a family in need and a ‘Shramadana’ programme for the renovation of Jaya Maha Viharaya at Kaudulla. All the activities were conducted in accordance with health guidelines for prevention of spreading of COVID-19.
