The annual concert and the graduation ceremony of the Preschool SLAF Base Ratmalana for 2010 was held on the 25th of November at the S. De S. Jayasinghe Hall, Dehiwala.
The concert itself consisted of many entertainment events such as dances, songs, nursery rhymes, and drama presented by the talented children of the preschool, who no doubt created a memorable impression on all those who were present.
A total of 63 children participated in the talent show consisting of 14 Upper Kindergarten students, who graduated as preschool leavers, 25 Lower Kindergarten students and 24 Play Group students who were under the age of two and a half years.
This Preschool concept which is an internationally recognized early childhood orientation method was introduced to the Air Force by Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke and has produced tremendous results over past few years.
The English language is used as the language of orientation among the children and many other special learning criteria have been used for different intelligence levels of the children. Teachers qualified on early childhood development have been employed for teaching, using English as the medium of speech.
This event was a glorious and successful event which showcased to the entire community the importance of effective early childhood development for a better future for the children.
The chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Cmdr DLS Dias and his wife, Mrs. Mekhala De Silva and Mrs. Christene Ranasinghe were among the distinguished guests. The parents of the children were also present to witness the event.
