FOUNDATION STONE PLACES FOR RESTORATION OF NEELAGIRI STUPA

The laying of foundation stone at Neelagiri Stupa at Ampara held today (16 January 2022) under the patronage of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Chairperson of ‘Archaeological Heritage Management Presidential Task Force for Eastern Province, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd).
The solemn occasion was held under the auspices of Venerable Maha Sanga including Panama Bodhirukkarama Vihara Chief Prelate, Venerable Panama Chandrarathana Thero, Lahugala Magul Maha Vihara Chief Prelate, Venerable Indigaswelle Pungnasara Thero and Na Uyana Monastery Chief Prelate Venereble Angulgamuwe Ariyananda Thero. The event was attended by Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Acting Director Civil Engineering Air Commodore Udula Wijesinghe, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Ampara, Air Commodore Waruna Gunewardana, Chairperson Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana, Senior Military Officers along with Regional State Officials, members of Ministry of Defence and a large gathering of devotees.
In line with the directives of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, the restoration of Stupa is planned to be constructed by the Directorate of Civil Engineering through the Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake.
The event was held while adhering to the healthcare procedures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
