INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF THE 5TH ANNUAL ACADEMIC SESSIONS OF THE SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF MILITARY MEDICINE

The Inauguration Ceremony of the 5th Annual Academic Sessions 2022 of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) held yesterday (10 February 2022) at the Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet & Convention Hall, Attidiya. The principal advisor to the President, Mr. Lalith Weerathunga graced the event as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour was Professor Saroj Jayasinghe, MBBS, MD (Col), MD(Bristol), MRCP(UK), FRCP(Lond), PhD(Colombo), FCCP, FNASSL, Consultant Physician, Former Chair Professor of Medicine at Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo. The Inauguration ceremony commenced with the graceful arrival of the Ceremonial Procession.

The welcome address delivered by Brigadier (Dr) PAC Fernando USP, the President of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine who highlighted the challenging yet rewarding path that the college took to arrive at its present state during such a short period. The Guest of Honour, Professor Saroj Jayasinghe, during his speech he explained the importance of building international military civilian synergies.

The Chief Guest Mr. Lalith Weerathunga, highlighted the tremendous contribution made by the medical services of the Tri-Forces during the pandemic situation and wished the college a successful Academic Session by his speech.

The Secretary – Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine delivered the “Vote of Thanks” on behalf of the President- Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine. The last item in the agenda of the Inauguration Ceremony was a colourful cultural show performed by the Cultural Troupes of Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force.

The Inauguration Ceremony was attended by Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana together with Mrs. Charmini Pathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Secretary to the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Major General SH Munasinghe, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Chief of Staff of SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Payoe, Director Health Services of SLAF, Air Vice Marshal (Dr) Lalith Jayaweera and senior health services officials in both military and civil sectors.
