SLAF STATION MORAWEWA UNDERTAKES PADDY HARVESTING OF LOW INCOME FARMER COMMUNITY

Being aligned to national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ by His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapakse,  the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana directed to initiate a paddy harvesting project using newly acquired combine harvester machine to the SLAF.

This generous activity was shouldered by SLAF Station Morawewa under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa and inaugurated on 12 February 2022 at Morawewa area.  
    
The objective of this community service responsibility project is to undertake paddy harvesting of low income paddy farmers to provide incentives to increase their earnings by cutting down harvesting cost. Initially, 31 paddy farming families were selected under the recommendation of Divisional Secretariat Morawewa and Paddy Farming Societies at Morewawa area.  It is intended to harvest 93 acres where 3 acres of each family would be harvested free of charge during this initial phase. The second and third phases will be conducted at Knaugahawewa and Ampara areas respectively.  

A cross section of officers and airmen at the SLAF Station Morawewa and beneficiaries at the area attended to witness the inauguration.
