SLAF STATION MORAWEWA AND SLAF BASE VAVUNIYA CONDUCTS PADDY HARVESTING PROGRAMME FOR LOW INCOME FARMERS AT KANUGAHAWEWA AREA

Aligned to national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ by His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksha and as per the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, the second phase of paddy harvesting programme was commenced at Kanugahawewa area, yesterday (20 February 2022) by Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa under the supervision of Commanding Officer, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa and Sri Lanka Air Force Base Vavuniya under the supervision of Base Commander Group Captain Pradeep Piyarathne.

The objective of this community service responsibility project is to undertake paddy harvesting of low income paddy farmers to provide incentives to increase their earnings by cutting down harvesting cost. 30 paddy farming families were selected under the recommendation of Divisional Secretariat Kebithigollewa and Paddy Farming Societies at Kanugahawewa.  It is intended to harvest 90 acres where 3 acres of each family would be harvested free of charge during this second phase.

Base Commander SLAF Base Vavunia, Group Captain Pradeep Piyarathne, Commanding Officer, SLAF Station Morawewa Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa, officers, airmen and beneficiaries attended to witness the event.
