PRESS BRIEFING ON “GUWAN HAMUDA PAPEDI SAWARIYA 2022”

The press briefing on the “ Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2022” was held today (28 February 2022) at the Air Force Headquarters. This year’s race will be conducted for the 23rd consecutive year in concurrence with 71st Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. Over one hundred male and more than thirty female Sri Lankan ranking/other riders are expected to compete in this race.
The duration of the men’s race will be 3 days. It will start on 4th March 2022 from Air Force Headquarters Colombo, passing each leg through Puttalam, Dambulla and finish in Katunayake with a distance of approximately 412 Km while women’s race will be commenced on 06th March 2022 as a single leg event from Puttalam to Katunayake.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Eagle’s Lagoon View Banquet Hall in Katunayake on 6th March 2022 where the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana will grace the occasion with the sponsors and other distinguished guests.
The press briefing was chaired by the Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Commodore Kithsiri Leelarathne while Director SLAF Media, Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe, President Cycle Federation of Sri Lanka, Mr. HL Krishantha, General Manager Abans Group of Company, Mr. Laleendra Brahmana and General Manager Sales and Distribution SLT Mobitel, Mr. Sugath Abeysinghe participated as panel members. Secretary SLAF Cycling, Group Captain Ranga Perera briefed the outline arrangements of the entire race. A large number of journalists from the electronic and print media were also present at the occasion.
The principal sponsor of the race in this year is Abans Group of Companies while SLT Mobitel as the official Telecommunication Partner, Bank of Ceylon as the official Banking Partner and Peoples Insurance as the official Insurance Partner. At the same time the event will be co-sponsored by Maliban Biscuit Manufactories Private Limited and Link Naturals Private Limited. The electronic media partner is Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and ‘Neth FM’ as the Radio Partner.
Before the conclusion of press briefing, the sponsorship cheques and official letters were handed over to the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshan Pathirana respectively by General Manager Abans Group of Company, Mr. Laleendra Brahmana, General Manager Sales and Distribution SLT Mobitel, Mr. Sugath Abeysinghe, Chief Marketing Officer of Bank Of Ceylon, Mr. Sameera Liyanage, Head of Finance Maliban Biscuit Manufactories Private Limited, Mr. Devapriya Gunasena, Director Sales Link Natural Products Private Limited, Mr. Nishantha Paranagama and Regional Manager People’s Insurance PLC, Mr. Priyantha Yatawarage.
