After breaking the 02 years of silence period due to the global pandemic, Sri Lanka Basketball Federation organized the 53rd  Senior National Basketball Tournament which was commenced at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on 18th February 2022.

The finals kicked off on 08th Mar 22 between Sri Lanka Air Force and Mercantile Services Team in par with the celebration of International Women’s day.

In Group matches, SLAF Women’s team has beaten Jaffna Sports Club, Hambanthota Sports Club and Sri Lanka Universities Club and selected for the final for the first time in the SLAF Basketball history.

At the end of the half time of the final match, Mercantile Services Team was leading from five points with the score line at 26-21 after a tough competition with the girls in blue.

The game ended with scores 65-55 in favour of Mercantile Services Team while making a record of first ever National level achievement by the women in the Sri Lanka Air Force.   

Chairman SLAF Basketball Air Commodore Ranjith Senanayake grace the occasion and participated in the awarding ceremony with SLBF officials.
