Graduation of DSCSC Course No 04

The graduation ceremony for 75 officers of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Course No. 4 took place on Monday, 13 December, 2010 at its premises in Sapugaskanda.
The course comprising of officers from the tri forces of Sri Lanka as well as from friendly foreign countries, commenced on 11, January 2010 and concluded this week. 47 Army, 11 Navy and 11 Air Force Officers as well as a civil administration officer from the Ministry of Defence, successfully graduated from the course this year. The batch also included 02 Officers from Bangladesh and an officer each from India, Pakistan and Maldives. Incidentally, this is the second occasion that foreign student officers graduated from the DSCSC.
The prestigious Golden Owl Award was jointly awarded to 5 grandaunts from the tri forces; 2 Army, 2 Navy and 1 Air Force Officers. Wing Commander Chaminda Wickramaratna of SLAF was awarded the Commandant’s Golden Pen. This award is presented to the best original research paper containing proper documentation that is submitted to the board of examiners. The criterion is based on originality, style and overall value to the military profession of the chosen topic of study.
During this year’s course, the batch was separated into four groups and proceeded to India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan as part of the annual overseas study tour, at the end of the second term. Meanwhile a select number of Officers pursued a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies (M Def S).
Minister of External Affairs Prof G.L. Peiris was the Chief Guest at the ceremony while Minister of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapakse also graces the occasion with his distinguished presence.
The grandaunts have completed an intensive course of training and look forward to their new appointments in Command and Staff, in the respective services, ministries and countries.
