FIRE SCHOOL AND FIRE TENDER MAINTENANCE SQUADRON CONDUCTED AIR SEA RESCUE (ASR) EXERCISE

The Sri Lanka Air Force Fire and Rescue Squadron conducted an Air Sea Rescue (ASR) exercise along the shoreline of Panadura Beach yesterday (27 April 2022).

Pilots, Fire Fighters, and Air Gunners along with instructors took part in this training exercise conducted by the Fire School and Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS) at SLAF Base Katunayake.  No 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron at SLAF Base Rathmalana, Lifesavers and boats from the Sri Lanka Navy and SLAF lifesavers were deployed at Panadura Beach for this join exercise.

Air-Sea-Rescue refers to the common use of aircraft and surface vessels to search and recover victims at sea as well as seafarers in distress. The SLAF Fire and Rescue team (Emergency first responders) has conducted many Search and Rescue operations to save lives of flood victims and fishermen capsized due to the gale force winds experienced in all island. Apart from that, SLAF surveillance aircraft also facilitate the responders by directing surface vessels with quick and accurate references.

The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer No 4 VVIP/VIP Helicopter Squadron Group Captain KADAC Kuruvita and Commanding Officer Fire School and Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron, Wing Commander MADAP Perera.
