SLAF SATION MIRIGAMA CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY

The SLAF Station Mirigama celebrated its 15th Anniversary yesterday (01 June 2022). The SLAF Detachment Mirigama was initially established on 06 April 2007 at Kithulwala, Ihalgamakanda Mountain under the command of Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake in order to provide security, administrative and logistics support for the establishment of the No 04 Air Defence Radar Squadron. Later, SLAF Detachment Mirigama was renamed as SLAF Station Mirigama and Wing Commander HBDJ Karunarathne was appointed as the first Commanding Officer 01 June 2007.
The day’s proceedings initiated with the address to all officers, airmen and civil staff of the station by the acting Commanding Officer, Group Captain DSC Fernando followed by the Shramadana campaign conducted to clear either side of the road leading from the ‘Sub-Guard room’ premises up to Kithulwala junction.
In line to the anniversary celebration Community Service Projects were conducted including a blood donation campaign on 26 May 2022 at the Station Hospital premises, Sharamadana campaign on 27 May 2022 within the station premises and at ‘Ape Lamai’ Special Children’s School at Bothale. Simultaneously, dry rations and sanitary items were donated to the ‘Ape Lamai’ Special School on 28 May 2022 with the participation and generosity by Acting Commanding Officer, Group Captain DSC Fernando, officers, airmen and civil staff of the Station.
