According to a concept of the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana, the "NIWAHANATA ASWENNA" urban agriculture motivational programme was commenced at all Air Force Establishments today (16 June 2022). A vegetable plants donation ceremony was conducted at SLAF Guwanpura General Service Quarter’s premises and the event was graced by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit.

The main purpose of this project is to promote a self-motivated habit among the people to cultivate vegetables for their consumption with their adequate spaces/ lands of the General Service Quarters/ Messes and to take every possible measure to prepare for the acute food shortage due to the prevailing situation of the country.

The Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo, Air Vice Marshal Dilshan Wasage, Air Secretary Group Captain Anuruddha  Wijesiriwardena, President Seva Vanitha Unit SLAF Station Colombo, Mrs Janakamali Wasage , Secretary SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Wing Commander Suresh Fernando, a cross section of Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo and the Staff of the Seva Vanitha Unit participated for the main event. Simultaneously, this programme was held at the other SLAF Establishments under the supervision of respective Commandant, Base Commanders and Commanding Officers.

The invaluable monetary donation for this programme was made by Ms. Dilhari Galagoda with the contribution of her friends (including foreign Nationals) who are living in Australia.
