The Change of Command at No 5 Fighter Squadron, SLAF Base Katunayake was held on 22 August 2022 where Wing Commander KGRI Perera WWV and Bar, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, MMS (Mil Com - PRC), psc, qfi handed over the command to Wing Commander SMMMM Senanayake WWV, RSP and three Bars, MMS (Mil Com - PRC), BSc (Mgt), psc, qfi. The traditional handing over taking over parade was conducted at the squadron premises with the participation of squadron personnel.

After 21 years of illustrious and dedicated service the departing Commanding Officer, Wing Commander KGRI Perera, will bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force on 01 September 2022. The newly appointed Commanding Officer, Wing Commander SMMMM Senanayake previously held the appointment of Officer Commanding Operations at No 5 Fighter Squadron.
