THE INTER UNIT RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP - 2022

The Inter Unit Rugby Championship - 2022 was held at Rugby Ground SLAF Base Ratmalana Yesterday (27 September 2022). The awarding ceremony took place at the same venue with the graceful presence of Director Ground Operations of SLAF, Air Vice Marshal GGWTK Gunawardena as the Chief Guest.

The tournament conducted in to two segments and 05 Women’s teams and 17 Men’s teams competed at the Championship. SLAF Base Ratmalana Rugby Team won the title as Men’s Champions for the year 2022 whilst SLAF Trade Training School Ekala emerged as Runners up. In the Women’s category SLAF Academy China Bay won the Championship and SLAF Station Colombo emerged as Runners up.

Leading Aircraftwoman Samaraweera EDAT representing SLAF Academy China Bay and Squadron Leader NMTY Sarathchandra representing SLAF Base Ratmalana were adjudged as the Best Players in the Women’s and Men’s categories at the tournament respectively.

The event was attended by Director Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Air Vice Marshal AS Withana, Director Sports Air Commodore, SN Fernandopulle, Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Vice Marshal KGDN Jayasinghe, Secretary Air Force Sports Council, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage and other distinguished invitees.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
