INTER UNIT JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP – 2022

The Inter Unit Judo Championship 2022 was held at Indoor sports complex SLAF Base Katunayake from 03 October 2022 to 05 October 2022. The final and awards ceremony were held at the same venue yesterday (05 October 2022) with the graceful presence by Director Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal VB Edirisinghe as the Chief Guest.
The Championship conducted under ten (10) weight categories for men and eight (08) weight categories for women as well as open event and team event were held for both. One hundred and six (106) players competed for the men’s events from eighteen (18) independent sports formations and forty four (44) players participated for the women events from eight (8) independent sports formations.
The SLAF Academy China Bay won the title for the Men’s overall Championship by obtaining twenty one (21) points whilst SLAF Station Colombo emerged as the Runners Up by obtaining nineteen (19) points. The SLAF Station Colombo clinched the Women’s overall Championship by obtaining thirty (30) points whilst SLAF Station Bandaranaike International Airport secured the Runners Up by earning twenty three (23) points. Leading Aircraftman Thilakarathne MGU representing SLAF Academy China Bay and Leading Aircraftwoman Tharushika WKY representing SLAF Station Colombo were awarded as the Open Judo Champions in the Men’s and Women’s events respectively.
