The inauguration of the Equipment Provisioning and Accounting Unit as a separate formation was held at SLAF Base Katunayake on 1 January, 2011 under the patronage of the Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Commodore CR Gurusinghe and the unit’s first Commanding Officer, Wing Commander K.R. Eramudugalla.  

The unit was formerly under the command of CO Supply and Maintenance Depot before being converted onto an independent unit with effect from the beginning of this year.

This was based on the concept of the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal WDRMJ Goonetileke  to strengthen the equipment accounting procedure to ensure the future efficiency of the  SLAF organisation. The venture also received the guidance of the deputy Chief of Staff and Acting D.L, Air Vice Marshal HD Abeywickrama.
