THE BEST AGRICULTURAL PROJECT IN THE SLAF – 2022 CONCLUDES ON A HIGH NOTE

Setting the decisive mission of "Waga Sangramaya", an Agricultural programme was implemented in a competitive manner within SLAF establishments in order to contribute to the National Food Production Drive. This was a brainchild of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana who gave his solemn blessings to select the best Agricultural project and to appreciate the effort made by individual establishments.
The entire procedure was carried out under the supervision of a judge panel chaired by Air Commodore Rajiv Kodippili and overseen by Command Agro Officer, Group Captain Erandika Gunewardana. Further, Air Commodore HWR Chandima, Group Captain JS Samarasekara, Wing Commander CA Peduruhewa and Squadron Leader MEUK Perera were appointed as respective members of the panel.
The "Best Agricultural Project" was evaluated under a series of criteria, including the utilization of organic concepts for cultivation, consideration of flight safety aspects and effective and efficient utilization of available resources.
Eventually, as a result of this productive effort, fabulous cash rewards were awarded to the respective winning SLAF establishments yesterday (13 January 2023) at Air Force Headquarters. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The Second Runner Up and First Runner Up, positions were won by SLAF Academy China Bay and SLAF Station Mullaitivu with the cash rewards of Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 300,000 respectively. The Grand Prize of Rs. 500,000 was earned by SLAF Station Palavi. Moreover, consolation prizes of Rs. 50,000 per establishment were given to seven SLAF establishments, namely SLAF Base Katunayake, SLAF Base Vavuniya, SLAF Combat Training School Diyatalawa, SLAF Regiment Training School Vanni, SLAF Station Katukurunda, SLAF Station Batticaloa and SLAF Station Iranamadu. The consolation prizes were awarded by the Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapakse.
