NO. 03 AIR DEFENCE RADAR SQUADRON AT SLAF STATION WEERAWILA CELEBRATES 16TH ANNIVERSARY

The No. 03 Air Defence RADAR Squadron at SLAF Station Weerawila gloriously celebrated its 16th anniversary on 01 February 2023. The celebration commenced with the customary working parade followed by a friendly cricket tournament. In line with the celebration, a series of Community Service Projects were conducted including a Blood Donation Campaign under the patronage of District General Hospital Monaragala.
The No. 03 Air Defence RADAR Squadron consists of Indian-made INDRA MK II, 2D mobile RADAR which was inducted into the National Air Defence System on 31 January 2007. The Squadron was officially inaugurated on 01 February 2007 at the SLAF Base China Bay and again shifted to SLAF Station Weerawila due to the induction of Chinese-made YLC-18 RADAR system on 07 May 2012. This RADAR squadron has been commanded by nine Commanding Officers and presently, commanded by Wing Commander Krishan Gunarathne.
