ANNUAL ‘CISM DAY’ RUN - 2023

The International Military Sports Council (CISM) Day Run, which was organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force this time under the guidance of President Defence Services Sports Board and Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana was flagged off this morning (18 February 2022) at the Riffle Green Ground, Colombo by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd). The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapakse participated in the run along with the members of the Air Force Board of Management. The Secretary General of International Military Sports Council (CISM), Captain Roberto Recchia from the Italian Navy, Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the  Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera also participated for the event. Over a hundred personnel from each service participated for the ‘CISM Day Run’ which covered a distance of nearly 2.5 km.

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) was founded on the 18th of February 1948 and organizes various sporting events for the armed forces worldwide. CISM brings together military personnel from all its 133 member country nations who may previously have met on the battlefield while enabling them to strengthen their friendship on the playing field.

This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals set in CISM’s mission statement signed by all the member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports achieving its motto, “Friendship through Sport”.
