6TH ANNUAL ACADEMIC SESSIONS OF THE SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF MILITARY MEDICINE

The 6th Annual Academic Sessions - 2023 of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine commenced today (24 February 2023) at Eagles' Lagoon View Banquet Hall in Katunayaka, under the auspices of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe. The guest of honour the Dean of Medicine and professor of Pharmacology, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, Prof Selvanayagem Nirthanan, Chief of Staff and senior advisor to the President, Hon Sagala Rathnayake, Commanders of Sri Lanka Army and Navy, Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapakse and senior Officers of the Tri-Services, eminent personalities in the field of Medicine, executive committee and members of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine and numerous other dignitaries graced the occasion.

The event commenced with the glamorous arrival of the ceremonial procession and the welcoming address was delivered by President Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine, Air Commodore (Dr.) Niluka Abeysekera. The address by the guest of honor, Prof. Selvanayagem Nirthanan, was followed by the address by the chief guest, Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The mesmerising cultural show presented by the dance troupes of the Tri-Forces added colour to the evening. At the conclusion, the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine hosted a grand reception for all attendees.

The academic sessions, which are the pinnacle of every professional college’s academic calendar, will be held on the 25 February and 26 February 2023, at the Auditorium Army Hospital Narahenpita under the theme "Resilience of military medicine in times of crisis." Many eminent professionals in the field of medicine will be enlightening the participants on various topics. The keynote address will be delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Colombo, Prof. Vajira Dissanayake. This event would indeed enrich participants with current trends and advances in medicine, going along with the main aim of the college, which is promoting the continuous professional development of its members.
