US DEFENCE MEMBERS CONDUCT A KNOWLEDGE-SHARING SESSION FOR SLAF AND SL NAVY OFFICERS

A special training programme on ‘Human Rights Mobile Training Team (MTT) and Maritime Law Institutional Capacity Building (ICB)’ was conducted recently at the Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay with the coordination of the US Embassy of Sri Lanka and the Directorate of Training at Air Force Headquarters. The resource personnel from the Defence Institute of International Legal Studies comprising the delegation, with Lieutenant Commander Steven Bryant, Lieutenant Commander Philip Breuder and Lieutenant Chuck Ball, have conducted the two-day programme with the participants from SLAF and SL Navy officers who actively engage in Aid to Civil Power and Maritime Law Enforcement spectrums.

The programme consisted of several key aspects of the area of interest, such as Human Rights, Rights against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, Gender Violence and Trafficking, Sexual Harassments and Assault, Use of Force in Law Enforcement, International and Non-International Armed Conflicts and Law, Rules of Engagement and Targeting. Commanding Officer No. 3 Maritime Squadron, Group Caption Chandana Ratnayake, has coordinated the programme on behalf of the SLAF and at the end of the programme, mementoes were exchanged to mark the successful completion of the programme.
