AIR VICE MARSHAL JUDE PERERA BIDS ADIEU TO THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE

Air Vice Marshal Jude Perera USP, BSc (Def Stu) Elec & Eltc Eng bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force today (04 April 2023) after more than 33 years of dedicated service to the nation. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointment of Director General of Electronics and Information Technology Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force, which he was overseeing.

Air Vice Marshal Perera made an official farewell call on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, at his office. The Commander commended him for his long years of dedicated service rendered to the Nation and to the Sri Lanka Air Force in particular. The Commander also emphasized that he was one of the key stakeholders during the time of need for our motherland and that his illustrious career will remain etched in the annals of the SLAF. The Commander and Air Vice Marshal Perera exchanged mementos to mark the occasion. After which, he was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour by the SLAF Colour Wing on the same day (04 April 2023) before he departed Air Force Headquarters for the last time.

Air Vice Marshal Jude Perera joined the Sri Lanka Air Force on 14 November 1989, with the 07th intake of Kotelawala Defence Academy as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Electronics Engineering Branch in the year 1991. During his training period, he has successfully completed the Basic Combat Course and Degree Programme at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in Ratmalana and the Basic Administration Course at the SLAF Academy in China Bay. He has followed the Junior Command and Staff Course at the Junior Command and Staff College at SLAF Academy China Bay and qualified with a sound academic background in a particular field.

Air Vice Marshal Perera possessed a wide range of experiences in the Electronics Engineering Branch that he mastered through the professional development courses, which included an Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) Course in India, Air Defence Radar Familiarization Training on Electronic Engineering INDRA MK-II Course in India, Electronic Warfare Fundamental Course in Pakistan, Senior Command and Staff Course in Pakistan, Digital Multiplexing (PCM II) at Telecom Training Center Welisara, Modern Power Electronics Course at Arthur ‘C’ Clarke Centre Moratuwa and Microprocessor and Microcontroller Based System Design at Arthur ‘C’ Clarke Centre Moratuwa. And he demonstrated exceptional technical knowledge and expertise in managing and maintaining Electronic and Electrical systems in various air operations and formation-level applications.

Air Vice Marshal Perera held many appointments including Officer in Charge Avionics at No 04 Helicopter Squadron SLAF Base Ratmalana, Signal Officer at SLAF Special Operations Group Puliyankulam, Base Signal Officer at SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Air Defence Duties at Electronics and Telecommunication Wing SLAF Base Katunayake, Officer Commanding Maintenance at No 01 Air Defence Radar Squadron SLAF Base Katunayake, Staff Officer Research and Development at Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Air Force Headquarters, Commanding Officer at SLAF Trade Training School Ekala, Command Welfare Project Officer at SLAF Base Ratmalana, Commanding Officer Electronics and Telecommunication Wing  at SLAF Base Ratmalana, Staff Officer Electronics I at Directorate of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Air Force Headquarters, Deputy Director Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force before assuming the duties as the Director General Electronics and Information Technology Engineering.

For his distinguished and exemplary service, he has been awarded the Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal and the "Uttama Seva Padakkama".
