SLAF STATION MORAWEAWA SYMBOLIZES THE COMMENCEMENT OF PADDY CULTIVATION ON YALA SEASON 2023

The SLAF Station Morawewa conducted the annual "Kiri Ahara Pooja" to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises yesterday (05 April 2023) by using harvested paddy in the 'Maha' season. The event is part of the traditional ceremony of this station after the successful completion of all paddy cultivation activities. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, and the supervision of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya. Further officers, other ranks and civilian staff participated in the event.
Meanwhile, the paddy cultivation activities of the 'Yala' season were commenced by conducting a special almsgiving to "God Ganesha" to invoke blessings for the farming personnel and the whole process. This event was held at the Kovil premises at the Indiwewa Detachment with the participation of the Commanding Officer and all ranks. In this "Yala" season, it is planned to cultivate 75 acres of paddy fields with traditional paddy varieties to cater to the rice demand of SLAF service members and civilian personnel while assisting the National Food Security process in the country.
