SLAF HOSPITAL KATUNAYAKE, TOGETHER WITH SLAF DENTAL SECTION KATUNAYAKE, CELEBRATE THE WORLD "NO TOBACCO DAY"

SLAF Hospital Katunayake, together with SLAF Dental Section Katunayake, conducted a chain of eye-catching programmes for the service personnel at SLAF Base Katunayake to mark World "No Tobacco Day" under the theme of "Grow Food, No Tobacco" yesterday (31 May 2023).
The day was celebrated to spread awareness about the harms of tobacco use through a panel discussion, a poster campaign and a street drama. The session was guided by the Commanding Officer Hospital Katunayake, Air Commodore (Dr.) NDB Abeysekera and the Commanding Officer Dental Unit Katunayake, Air Commodore (Dr.) JPW Jayawickrama.
Oral cancers, Socio-economic and psychological problems, nutritional issues related to smoking and use of tobacco and methods of cessation were emphasized as prime topics. Consultant Community Dentist, Dr. Hemantha Amarasooriya, contributed to the panel discussion as the guest speaker. The session was winding up with a poster campaign and a street drama.
This programme immensely contributed to making the community aware of the value of a tobacco-free life.
