SLAF MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY IN PUTTALAM WITH “GUWAN HAMUDA HERALI PERALIYA” PROGRAMME
In conjunction with World Environment Day, the Sri Lanka Air Force launched another phase of the "Guwan Hamuda Herali Peraliya" island wide jackfruit planting campaign in the District Secretariat of Puttalam. The programme was organized by the District Secretariat Division in collaboration with Command Agro Unit Sri Lanka Air Force in Chilaw South Ariyagama area with the participation of Government Officials, District Secretary, Divisional Secretary, Assist Divisional Secretary, District Engineer, Divisional Environment Officer from the Central Environment Authority and Officers from the Disaster Management Centre, along with villagers from the district.
The “Guwan Hamuda Herali Peraliya”project, initiated by under the guidance of Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, aims to create an eco-friendly environment and support national food security in Sri Lanka. The project encourages villages to develop biodiversity by planting jackfruit trees. Its goal is to establish a jackfruit food culture among communities, replacing imported carbohydrate foods in the foods in the future and saving foreign exchange.
