NO. 07 JUNGLE WARFARE AND HELIBORNE OPERATION COURSE FOR FOREIGN AND TRI SERVICES SPECIAL FORCES

The paramount aim of the Heliborne Operations is the rapid concentration of forces at a decisive place and time. To that end, Regiment Special Forces Training School (RSFTS) at SLAF Station Morawewa was conducted with the participation of Tri Services personnel from the SL Army Commando Regiment, SL Army Special Forces, SL Army Airmobile Brigade, SL Navy Special Boat Squadron, SL Navy Marine Corps, SL Police Special Task Force and SLAF Regiment Special Forces. Moreover, a foreign trainee, Sergeant Sikwese P, from the Zambian Air Force also participated in this training module 12 June 2023 to 28 June 2023.

This training module comprises tower training exercises for Abseiling, Rappelling, Fast Rope, Heli Marshaling and Special Rescue Training methods to make it feasible to conduct aircraft training exercises in the same context. Further, the same training modules, including map craft, include GPS handling, terrain navigation marches and GPS marches to find distressed personnel in any terrain and in any situation. The aircraft training exercise phase included Rapid Deployment, Rappelling and Stabilised Body Operations (STABO) exercises, which were conducted at SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Station Morawewa. The Final Training Exercise (FTX) was conducted with the aim of a real-time situational exercise to evacuate distressed aircrew personnel with the combination of hostage rescue missions.

Entire training exercises were conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya and the Commanding Officer of the Regiment Special Forces Wing, Wing Commander Sumith Bandara, who led the training programme under the guidance and direct supervision of Director General Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramaratne, Director General Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal Waruna Gunawardana and Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe.
 
The Closing Ceremony and Certificate Awarding of the Course were conducted on 28 June 2023, under the patronage of the Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya, at Regiment Special Force Training School, SLAF Station Morawewa.
