REGIMENT SPECIAL FORCE (RSF) CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The Regiment Special Force (RSF) celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday (07 July 2023). Sri Lanka Air Force Regiment Special Force is a descendant of Air Base Defence and Rescue (ABDR) Squadron which was established at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda on 07 July 2003. The terminology was changed to the Regiment Special Forces (RSF) Wing in the year 2006 and subsequently, this elite force wing was shifted to SLAF Station Morawewa in the year 2007 to expand its operational and training capabilities. Since its inception, RSF Wing immensely contributed to the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Nation by conducting Air Base Defence & Rescue, Search & Rescue (SAR), Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Special Combat Operations.
The formation day celebrations commenced with the customary working parade which was reviewed by Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Sumith Bandara. The Commanding Officer addressed all Officers and airmen who contributed to the development of the RSF Wing from its inauguration and thanked all the past Commanding Officers, other officers and all other rank personnel. The Commanding Officer also extended his greetings to officers and other rank personnel and thanked them for the dedication and active contribution to the development of the RSF Wing.
The day's proceedings were concluded with a tree planting programme at SLAF Station Morawewa followed by a friendly cricket tournament which was organized at the Station sports ground with the participation of the Commanding Officer, Officers and Other ranks of RSF Wing. The Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Morawewa, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Parallel to the formation day, a donation programme was conducted on 04 and 05 July 2023 by the RSF Wing to the family members and children of deceased RSF personnel while on active service. Further, the Shramadana Campaigns were conducted at 'Jayasirimaha Bodhi' and 'Ruwanweliseya' at Anuradhapura with the participation of all the members of RSF Wing on 06 July 2023. Moreover, the religious observances were conducted at the 'Jayasirimaha Bodhi' followed by a Bodhi Pooja to invoke blessings to the SLAF and the Nation.
