SRI LANKAN DEFENCE SERVICES RUGBY TEAM DEPARTED TO PARTICIPATE 1ST CISM WORLD MILITARY RUGBY-7 CHALLENGE IN RUSSIA

The Sri Lankan Defence Services Rugby team has departed the country to participate in the No. 1st CISM Military Rugby-7 Challenge which is scheduled to be held from 22 August 2023 to 27 August 2023 in Moscow, Russia. This Championship will be contested by leading countries such as Russia, South Africa, Belarus and Bangladesh.
The Commander of the Air Force and President Defence Services Sports Board, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa conveyed his best wishes to the participants and wished them all success during the games. The Secretary of Defence Services Sports Board Group Captain Eranda Geeganage also participated in the official photograph with the President Defence Services Sports Board and the Defence Services Rugby team.
The Sri Lankan Defence Services team is comprised of 13 players along with four officials from SL Army, SL Navy and SL Air Force. Commodore PASK Pitigala from SL Navy who is the Chairman of Defence Services Rugby is the Chief of the Mission while the team manager is Brigadier DK Aluthdeniya. This participation is to endure the military and sports diplomacy among the participating countries while complementing the motto of CISM “Friendship through Sports”.
