In an era where eye diseases are increasingly affecting individuals across age groups, the Seva Vanitha Unit of SLAF Academy China Bay has taken a proactive stance in addressing this concern. With dedicated support from the Academy Hospital Staff, a remarkable Eye Screening Campaign was successfully held on 23 August 2023. This initiative, under the guidance of the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa and the expert supervision of Dr. Abhaya Jayasekara, a renowned Consultant Ophthalmologist, demonstrated a profound commitment to community well-being.

The event unfolded within the serene premises of Sri Bodhirajarama Viharasthanaya China Bay, benefitting not only service personnel and their families but also underserved families residing in the vicinity. Spearheaded by the Commanding Officer of Academy Hospital, in alignment with the guidance of the Commandant SLAF Academy China Bay, the occasion garnered an impressive turnout of over 250 participants.

The event was distinguished by its comprehensive approach. Beyond the vital eye screenings that were conducted, attendees received assessments for Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus, reflecting a holistic concern for overall health. Notably, the campaign extended its impact by distributing 200 spectacles to individuals identified with refractive errors during the screening process. This thoughtful gesture undoubtedly enhanced the visual well-being of many.

Looking ahead, the initiative's second phase is slated to encompass Intra Ocular Lens Transplant Surgery for individuals detected with cataracts. This testament to forward-thinking healthcare exemplifies the SLAF Academy China Bay's enduring commitment to promoting public welfare. By addressing eye health with professionalism and compassion, this effort underscores the institution's dedication to fostering a healthier and more vibrant community.
