The Change of Command of SLAF Base Katunayake was conducted today (24 August 2023). The traditional Handing Over/ Taking Over parade took place at the Base Parade Square where the outgoing Base Commander Air Vice Marshal LH Sumanaweera RWP, RSP and Bar USP, MSc (Strat Stu), MDS, fawc, ndc (Ind), psc handed over the command to Air Commodore SDGM Silva WWV, RSP, USP, MSc (Mil Stu), MSc (Strat Stu), MA in IS&S (UK), BSc (Def Stu), Pg Dip (IR) fawc, rcds, psc. Air Vice Marshal LH Sumanaweera will be proceeding to Air Force Headquarters where he will be assuming duties as the Director General Training.

The new Base Commander Air Commodore SDGM Silva assumed office after completion of the traditional Handing Over/ Taking over Parade. He previously held the appointment of Commandant of Air Force Academy China Bay before being appointed as the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake.

Finally, a customary Farewell Dining-Out was hosted to the outgoing Base Commander by the members of the Officers’ Mess SLAF Base Katunayake.
