ARTICLE - AIRCREW WATER AND JUNGLE SURVIVAL

The "Aircrew Water and Jungle Survival Training Course No. 02-2023" was successfully conducted at SLAF Combat Training School Diyatalawa and SLAF Station Ampara from 16th to 28th October 2023, with the participation of 18 aircrew members, including 06 Pilots, 02 Flight Engineers, 01 U/T Flight Engineer, 02 Loadmasters, 05 Air Gunners and 02 Cabin crew. Furthermore, one foreign officer, Major M Chalikosa from Zambia also participated in the training.

The course was conducted in two sessions. First session was conducted at Diyatalawa with lectures and practical sessions on aspects of Water and Jungle survival training that included field training, map preparation, day and night map marches and a map march to Pattipola. Second session was conducted at Ampara which included lectures, demonstrations, practical sessions covering aspects of Water and Jungle survival training and River crossing, three days of "Field Training Exercises" on survival following a simulated crash landing in the jungle.

The closing ceremony was held on 28th October 2023, at SLAF Station Ampara, and the occasion was graced by the Director General of Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal VB Edirisinghe, as the Chief Guest. Certificates were awarded to the trainees who successfully completed the training.
