A SIMULATION EXERCISE OF AN AERO MEDICAL EVACUATION AND TRANSPORTATION OF A CRITICALLY ILL PATIENT

The Directorate of Health Services successfully conducted a simulation exercise of an Aero Medical Evacuation and Transportation (AMET) of a critically ill patient in collaboration with the Trauma secretariat of the National Hospital Sri Lanka today (08 November 2023) at SLAF Base Anurahapura. This simulation exercise was an extended learning exposition to the lecture series conducted for the Consultants and Medical officers from the Ministry of Health, earlier this month by the SLAF Aviation Medical team.

This exercise demonstrated the patient handing over and taking over procedure and steps in an Aero Medical Evacuation and Transportation. The Bell 412 with the Medivac Kit from the No. 4 Squadron has used for this exercise. The simulation flight with a patient was taken off from SLAF Base Anuradhapura and landed on the Helipad of the National Hospital Sri Lanka. The team comprised with SLAF Aviation Medivac teams and Doctors and Intensive teams of the National Hospital Colombo.
