SLAF AIR CHIEF CONDUCTS INSPECTION OF ONGOING CONSTRUCTION AT APEKSHA HOSPITAL
7:40pm on Friday 22nd December 2023
Under the financial support of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewala, the construction of the new four-story building at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital is underway, with 75 professionally qualified staff and approximately 100 skilled labour assistance provided by the Sri Lanka Air Force. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa conducted an inspection visit today (22 December 2023), focusing on the construction progress of the new four-story Children's Ward Complex at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital.
Following the inspection, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa instructed the stakeholders to ensure the project's completion within five months, aligning with the 73rd anniversary of the SLAF. Furthermore, he proposed that the Air Force take responsibility for the lifelong maintenance of the new building, ensuring it upholds the highest standards of quality and longevity. The initiative to build the new four-story facility, specifically for children, stems from the inadequate space for paediatric care at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. Mr. Dishan Gunasekara, the Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, proposed and initiated this project, laying the foundation stone on 21 September 2023.
Initially planned as a three-story ward complex, the project evolved into a four-story structure due to the professional labour contribution of the SLAF. The management and construction of this project are supervised by Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe, the Director General Constructions Engineering of the SLAF. Beyond the construction aspect, the Air Force is actively engaged in the establishment of a Children's Garden, aimed at promoting the mental well-being of young residents. Additionally, ongoing efforts encompass the repair and renovation of the existing ward complex dedicated to the care and treatment of children.
