SRI LANKA AIR FORCE LAUNCHES 'WINGS OF FRIENDSHIP' INITIATIVE FOR SCHOOL RENOVATION AND COMMUNITY IMPACT

In line with the upcoming 73rd anniversary of
the Sri Lanka Air Force, scheduled for celebration on 02nd of March
this year, a significant Social Mobilization Initiative titled "Wings of
Friendship" has been set into motion. This initiative aims to renovate
and enhance facilities in 73 selected schools across the North and North
Central Provinces. The grand inauguration of the School Renovation
Project unfolded at Milyddi North Kaleimagal Maha Vidyalayam in
Kankesanthurai yesterday (06 January 2024), under the auspices of the
Governor of the Northern Province, Honourable Mrs. PSM Charles and the
Guest of Honour Director General Aeronautical Engineering, Air Vice
Marshal Muditha Mahawattage.
As a part of this comprehensive endeavour, a series of impactful programmes were executed at Milyddi North Kaleimagal Maha Vidyalayam, adding a meaningful touch to the upcoming anniversary celebration. The event commenced with the laying of the foundation stone for a new Main Hall building to enhance the infrastructure for the students of Kaleimagal Maha Vidyalayam and also marking the initial step in the 73-school renovation programme. The day's events furthermore included a tree planting programme, a book donation programme and a dental screening programme.
The event was attended by distinguished individuals, including Commanding Officer SLAF Station Pidurutalagala, Group Captain Thushara Bandara, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Palaly, Group Captain Chaminda Herath, Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Honourable Saman Bandulasena, Secretary of the Ministry of Education Northern Province, Mr. Patrick Diranjan, Northern Provincial Director of Education, Mr. Quindus, Zonal Director of Education, Mr. Bradely, Principal of Milyddi North Kaleimagal Maha Vidyalayam, Mrs. Thamilselvy Shanmuganathan, teachers, parents and students.
