AIR VICE MARSHAL UDULA WIJESINGHE BIDS ADIEU TO THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE

Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe USP, BSc (Def Stu), C Eng, MIE (SL), MCPM, AUKAP (UK) bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force today (12 January 2024), after completing more than 32 years of dedicated service to the nation. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointment of Director General Constructions Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Air Vice Marshal Wijesinghe made an official farewell call on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, at his office on 09 January 2024. The Commander commended him for his dedicated service rendered to the nation and to the Sri Lanka Air Force in particular. The Commander also emphasized that he was one of the key stakeholders during times of need for our motherland, and that his heroic history will remain etched in the annals of the SLAF. The Commander and Air Vice Marshal Wijesinghe exchanged mementos to mark the occasion. Afterward, he was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour today (12 January 2024) by the SLAF Colour Wing before departing from Air Force Headquarters at Defence Headquarters Complex for the last time. In recognition of the outstanding service rendered to the nation, a Farewell Dinner was graciously hosted in honour of Air Vice Marshal Wijesinghe with the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa along with the members of the Air Force Board of Management. This momentous occasion took place at the Air Force Headquarters Officers' Mess in Colombo.
Air Vice Marshal Wijesinghe joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in 1990 and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Civil Engineering branch on 14 November 1992.
During his career in the Sri Lanka Air Force, he has served at Directorate of Planning as a Staff Officer Planning. He has held several key appointments such as Commanding Officer Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake, Senior Staff Officer Civil Engineering, Staff Officer Civil Engineering Design and Acting Director Construction Engineering at the Directorate of Construction Engineering, Air Force Headquarters Colombo before taking on the position of the Director General Construction Engineering.
He has followed Junior Command and Staff Course at the Junior Command and Staff College at SLAF Academy China-Bay and Senior Staff Course at the Defence Services Command and Staff College Pakistan.
Air Vice Marshal Wijesinghe graduated from the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University obtaining Bachelor of Science (Defence Studies) in Civil Engineering. He is also qualified as a Chartered Civil Engineer.
During his distinguished military career of more than 32 years, he has been awarded with the Sri Lanka Air Force 50th Anniversary Medal, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, North and East Operation Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Clasp, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal, Poorna Bhoomi Padakkama, 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal, Uttama Seva Padakkama, Seva Padakkama, Sevabhimani Padakkama, North Humanitarian Campaign Medal, East Humanitarian Campaign Medal.
He held the appointment of Chairman Golf in the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Council.
