NO. 3 AIR DEFENCE RADAR SQUADRON (ADRS) CELEBRATES 17TH ANNIVERSARY

No. 3 Air Defence Radar Squadron marked its 17th Anniversary yesterday (01 February 2024). The squadron consists of the INDRA MK II RADAR system, integrated into the National Air Defence system on 31 January 2007. Inaugurated on 01 February 2007, at SLAF Academy China Bay, it later moved to SLAF Station Weerawila, replacing the YLC-18 RADAR system on May 7, 2012.

No. 3 ADRS has seen nine Commanding Officers since its inception. The day began with a working parade led by the current Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Channa Nandasena, followed by recreational activities. The programme concluded with a cricket tournament and a lunch gathering for all squadron ranks.

In addition to the anniversary festivities, the squadron conducted charitable programmes over three days. This included a beach cleaning campaign in Kirinda on 30 January 2024 and a blood donation drive with the District General Hospital, Hambantota, on 31 January 2024.
