CISM DAY RUN 2024 FLAGGED OFF IN COLOMBO
6:35pm on Sunday 18th February 2024
The International Military Sports Council (CISM) Day Run was flagged off today (18 February 2024) at the Parliament Grounds in Colombo. The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva graced the event as the Chief Guest while the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa and Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Navy took the lead in the run. Tri-forces personnel participated in the ‘CISM Day Run’ which covered a distance of over 2 km.
The International Military Sport Council (CISM) was founded on the 18th of February 1948 and organizes various sporting events for the armed forces worldwide. CISM brings together military personnel from all its 140 member country nations, who may previously have met on the battlefield, enabling them to strengthen their friendship on the playing field.
This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals that were set in CISM’s mission statement in 1998, signed by all the member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports, achieving its motto, “Friendship through Sport”.
