Air Officer Commanding's (AOCs) Inspection at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Vavuniya, 2011

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, conducted the AOCs Inspection at SLAF Base Vavuniya this morning (1st April 2011).
The Base Commander, Air Commodore Rohintha Fernando, received the Commander on his arrival and a Guard of Honour was accorded to him thereafter. The Guard of Honour was commanded by Flight Lieutenant Dammika Rathnayake. 6 Officers, 10 Airmen and 3 Civilians were commended by the Commander for their meritorious contributions to the Air Base in particular and to the Air Force in general. They received their Commendation Certificates from the Commander after the Guard of Honour.
The Commander also inspected the three Lodger Formations located within the Air Base; No. 111 UAV Squadron commanded by Wing Commander Shehan Wijenayake, No. 2 Air Defence Radar Squadron commanded by Squadron Leader Nandika Salgadu and No. 23 Regiment Wing commanded by Wing Commander Chrishantha Manamperi. The Commander also inspected the SLAF Detachment, Mamaduwa which was established under the purview of Air Base to undertake a surface mining (quarry) venture mainly for the purpose of producing aggregate for rapid development projects launched by the government in the newly liberated areas of North and Eastern provinces of the country. The Detachment is commanded by Squadron Leader Prabhath Molligoda.
During the inspection, the Commander declared open the newly established International Pre-School at the Air Base that would provide quality early-childhood education to the children of air-force personnel serving at SLAF Base Vavuniya as well as to the children of the neighbouring civilian community.
