COMMANDER MAKES A SIGNIFICANT STEP TOWARDS ELEVATING SLAF CRICKET STANDARDS

The ceremony for the placement of the foundation stone to commence the refurbishment of the cricket ground pavilion at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake took place today (04 April 2024). This significant event was honoured by the presence of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, alongside the participation of the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management, officers, other ranks of the SLAF, Mr. Maurice Dela Zilva, Development Officer and a representative on behalf of the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The cricket ground of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake is dedicated as the home ground for SLAF cricket, accommodating both men’s and women’s teams, thereby addressing all practicing requirements in its capacity as the home ground. This refurbishment project aims to realize state-of-the-art facilities capable of hosting high-caliber players, thus elevating the performance standards of grooming players.

The spectator facilities provide the conveniences of VIP lounges, diverse seating options, various food and beverage outlets.

During the ceremony, the Commander imparted insightful words to the aspiring cricketers regarding the relationship between the Sri Lanka Air Force and Cricket, highlighting its relevance and necessity as an evolving sport for the future.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
